Scrambling is the midground between Hill Walking and Rock Climbing that requires you to use your hands to climb short sections of rock in order to get up steep ground. If you’re a keen Hill Walker but just lack the experience to venture of the beaten track and take a more vertical approach to your mountain summits then let one of our qualified instructors “show you the ropes!” During the course of the day you’ll be educated in route choice, equipment, use of a safety rope and anchors / belays. Is it for you? Have you ever thought you would like to try Scrambling but don't know where to begin? Perhaps you would like to develop your skills so that the classic scrambles in Ireland and Britain are within your reach? Or maybe you  have done some Scrambling but want to gain a better understanding of what's involved in the planning and route finding?  If so, this is the course for you! What we Cover? This course aims to take you away from the places walkers go and in to the realm of the mountaineer, taking you to the less accessible places on the mountains.  It will help you to develop the skills and judgement necessary to let you take on the challenges that scrambling can provide, whilst leave you a margin of safety on some of the most exciting mountain scenery in Ireland. The course will generally be operating on grade 1 and possibly grade 2 scrambles.  During our days out we will look at the following areas: •Planning a mountain day • Guidebooks, maps and grading systems •Clothing and equipment •Basic scrambling techniques and movement skills •Choosing a safe route and assessing risk •Hazard management •Assisting and safeguarding other party members •Simple ropework for scrambles in ascent and descent Any really bad weather is ideal for learning to navigate, an essential skill for any mountain journey.  The course will therefore adapt according to the prevailing conditions to make the best of any weather.
